Clinical hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that utilizes hypnosis to help individuals achieve a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility. This altered state of consciousness is employed to facilitate positive changes in behavior, thoughts, and feelings. Hypnotherapy is particularly effective in addressing a variety of issues, including:
Anxiety and Stress Management: Helping clients develop relaxation techniques and reduce anxiety levels.
Pain Management: Assisting individuals in coping with chronic pain or pain during medical procedures.
Behavioral Changes: Supporting the cessation of habits such as smoking, overeating, or nail-biting.
Phobias and Fears: Aiding in the reduction of irrational fears and phobias.
Sleep Disorders: Improving sleep patterns and addressing insomnia.
Self-Confidence: Enhancing self-esteem and confidence.
Emotional Issues: Addressing trauma, grief, or emotional blockages.
During a hypnotherapy session, the therapist guides the patient into a trance-like state using relaxation techniques and focused attention. In this state, patients may be more receptive to suggestions that facilitate behavioral changes and promote positive outcomes. It's important to understand that hypnotherapy is often utilized as a complementary approach for anxiety and stress management alongside other therapeutic methods.
I have had the pleasure of working with diverse groups of clients, including elite special forces personnel, pilots, deep-sea divers, high-performance athletes, corporate leaders, rural communities, families, and many more.
It is fascinating to learn how the body and mind function as interconnected entities, each affecting the other, which is particularly relevant in areas like pain management.
Hypnotherapy is a process where a qualified hypnotherapist uses hypnosis to guide you into a state of trance. In this state, you feel relaxed, and you shift your focus inward, away from the external world that you experience consciously every day.
Then the hypnotherapist makes suggestions that help you connect to your unconscious mind, to find and utilize natural resources deep within yourself that can help you achieve your goals or remove your problems.
A “Suggestion” is a statement given in hypnosis that something will happen. For example, a hypnotherapist may suggest that you feel completely relaxed as you think about a peaceful and pleasant scene. In a therapeutic context, a hypnotherapist uses suggestions as a tool to help you reprogramme your mind to respond in a healthier way to something.
You can view your hypnotherapist as being a navigator of your life journey. She is there to make suggestions for the best possible route for your next move. You can choose to accept her suggestions, or reject them if you want; after all, it’s your mind and you are always in control.
We will provide you with a simple registration form to fill in. This is for us to have an initial understanding of your presenting concerns and also for you to think about and get prepared for sharing what you would like help with.
Any information learned in therapy remains confidential unless it is necessary by law to disclose, or the disclosure is solely for the protection of the client’s safety as well as the therapist’s.
If you opt for online therapy, below are some useful tips prior to our session:
Hypnosis feels like meditation – a gentle, deeply relaxed state. You are awake, you are still aware of your surroundings, you are still in control, and you will likely continue to have thoughts running through your mind (especially early on in your practice).
It’s important to understand that if you continue to have thoughts during hypnotherapy, you are still “doing it correctly”, just as you would be with meditation. There is no blackout state, no amnesia, no getting stuck, no truth serum. That’s all Hollywood and stage-show nonsense.
No. You’re still aware of what is going on around you, and you will be in control throughout. No hypnotherapist can make you do what you do not want to do, or reveal what you are not comfortable with revealing if you do not want to.
In fact, we have good experience working with clients who do not want to talk about their problems. In this case, we will direct the therapy to focus solely on the solutions.
The free initial consultation will take about 60 minutes.
Typically, a session will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Each session may be short or long depending on the client’s needs and a number of other factors.
